APPLY
Saline and Lafayette County, Missouri high school seniors, wishing to pursue an undergraduate
degree from a university or college, or accredited technical school, are invited to apply. This
award addresses the needs of academically talented students who are considering professional
or technical careers. The selection of recipients will be based on several factors.
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must submit a completed application with the following information to be
considered for a scholarship with the Mar-Saline Branch of the NAACP. Failure to comply with
one or more of these criteria will result in denial of the application.
WITH INITIAL APPLICATION FORM

o A Completed application form signed and dated.
o Proof of residency in Missouri (Driver’s license or state identification)
o Must have a 2.5 or higher-grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Those schools with five-
point scales will be eligible based on the equivalent of a 2.5 G.P.A.
o Academic record – Official High school transcript.
o Recommendation Letters – Provide two letters of recommendation from either a
Teacher/Principal, Youth Counselor, Businessperson, member of the NAACP, who can
comment meaningfully, yet objectively, on your ability and unique qualities. You may
send more than two recommendations. However, only two are required.
o Narrative Statement – Please submit a typed personal statement, no less than 250
words, which tells how this scholarship will assist you in achieving your goals. We are
interested in your education/career goals, leadership skills, community service,
academic success, and one’s character and integrity. Please focus on a statement that
provides us with a strong image of your success in these areas.
AT THE TIME OF THE AWARD
• Successful student will be required to send a letter from the school indicating acceptance.
School financial aid statements with class schedules will be accepted as evidence of
enrollment.
• Award is restricted to the payment of tuition, room, board, books, and fees.
• Scholarship recipient will be asked to provide a photo.
• Scholarship recipient will be requested to attend a NAACP event in our area.
THE COMPETITION
Competition for the Mar-Saline NAACP Scholarship is high. As a result, it is imperative that each
student follows the provided instructions and checklist. Incomplete applications will be
denied.
SELECTION CRITERIA FOR SCHOLARSHIPS
Selection is based on academic excellence, community service, leadership skills, and financial
need. The Scholarship Committee of the Mar-Saline Branch of the NAACP, consisting of
NAACP members, and community and educational advocates, will judge applications.
Applicants from the geographical area of Saline, Lafayette counties will be considered.
TRANSCRIPT
An official transcript is required from your high school. When requesting transcripts, provide
the High school with your full name, social security number, present address, dates of
enrollment.
